Our History

The identity and purpose of Valleydale Church has been evident since its earliest days – a church interested in making an impact in its community and around the world for the gospel.

The "Mission Years"

  • Valleydale Baptist Mission – Nine families met on May 27, 1970, to begin a church in the Valleydale Road/Hwy 119 area. Lakeside Baptist Church in Jefferson County agreed to sponsor Valleydale.
  • 1971-72: On November 8, 1970, the mission’s first service was held at Spain Park Camp on Valleydale Road, 1 mile east of our present location, and the current site of the campus of Jefferson State. In 1971, a house and eight acres of land were purchased.

Early Church Years

  • September 1973: Valleydale is chartered as a self-supporting church with over 100 charter members.
  • March 1978: The first permanent building is built for worship and educational space; a second building is completed in 1987.
  • May 1993: Worship Center is completed at old campus.
  • Fall 1996: Valleydale expands through $3.5 million project of land acquisition, parking lot, addition of modular buildings, and completion of existing facilities.

Last 10 years

  • September 13, 1998: Valleydale celebrates 25th anniversary with “Y2K (Yes to the King) Celebration.” Dream Team is appointed.
  • 1998-2001: Dream Team studies, prays, and leads church to become a “best opportunity” church for the 21st Century.
  • September 16, 2001: Church votes to relocate to our current 44-acre site 1 mile west on Valleydale Road.
  • January-March, 2002: The Grace Adventure (TGA). Valleydale members gave over $6 million toward a relocation cost of over $20 million.
  • Church body enters our new facility the first Sunday of March, 2004 and occupies a second phase in January, 2005.

Present:

  • February – March 2008: during re:IMAGINE campaign, Valleydale pledges over $7 million to be given over 3 years toward reduction of relocation debt and improvement of current facilities. Church family gives “first fruits” cash offering on first week exceeding $2.3 million.

Future

The ongoing realization of a successful re:IMAGINE campaign gives Valleydale the opportunity to be all that the original founders desired and all God has purposed for this church to become in our community and world.
